Small Group Pilates Mat Classes
Do you like to work out with others? Does this motivate you to stick with your fitness plan? Perhaps you like this camaraderie, and need the commitment of a scheduled class every week to keep you on track? There is definitely a positive influence of going to an exercise class every week, meeting up and checking in with your classmates. It’s fun to be in it together, understanding the challenges of overcoming one’s weak spots, and encouraging each other’s progress. It’s a win-win for everyone!
In mat class, we will break down the fundamental skills of the various movements and exercises of the classical Pilates mat work repertoire. We can focus on the components and progressions, refining and improving technique with emphasis on understanding the principles of the Pilates method. Mat work is appropriate for any skill and fitness level; variations can be created for most exercises to customize for individual abilities. The mat work is universally recommended for those who want to deepen their knowledge of Pilates. With the oversight of your instructor, you will benefit from the attention to alignment, sequencing, and proper breathing. For different challenges, we will also add-in small props and accessories like the “Magic Circle”, rollers, blocks, and balls for variety and fun.
At BodyChange, we offer small group Pilates mat classes, no more than 6 participants. The mat work is the foundation of the entire Pilates system of exercise, building strength from the inside out like no other form of exercise. Give it a try, you’ll soon see/feel why we believe the Pilates mat work completes every fitness plan.
We do require at least one private so you can receive one-on-one instruction of the basic principles of Pilates before joining a class. This also allows your instructor to better understand your specific needs and goals. For this 1.5-hours individual session, there is a significant discount in the fee.
Or, you may prefer exercising on your own at home when it fits best into your schedule. If it’s difficult for you to attend a class on a regular basis, knowing the fundamentals to safely and effectively direct your own home practice may be best strategy for you. Experts agree, a private or two is a safe and practical way to begin your Pilates practice, with occasional sessions to check technique and to learn variations and progressions. It will be a worthwhile investment. This one-on-one instruction will focus on the intricacies of the movements, as well as proper breathing and alignment. The individualized session is integral for success; the exercises are best explained and demonstrated by a qualified instructor. You will then have the confidence your Pilates technique will keep you safe and give you the desired results.
